AP Studio Art 2019

CONCENTRATIOn

12 artworks which explore a singular theme or idea

 ARTIST STATEMENT

My concentration focuses on personal growth, maturity, and pain through metaphorical plants. Stories about people going through recovery are often portrayed as one-dimensional. It is seen as a time of healing, self-love, and total rebirth; like a blossoming flower in the new spring. However, recovering from a low point in life, whether it’s mental illness, the loss of a loved one, or severed relationships, can be just as excruciating and traumatic as the tragedy that one is recovering from.

Breadth

12 artworks which explore a variety of mediums, concepts, and techniques

 Artist Statement

My Breadth section, rather than a cohesive sequence of artworks, gave me the space to explore all types of mediums and formats, and allowed for the experimentation and risk-taking that perhaps was not present in the Sustained Investigation. Taking the AP Studio Art course has been the most enriching opportunity in my artistic journey so far. I have seen more artistic growth in myself in these past nine months than ever before. I feel much more confident in my painting skills and my use of color, and I have learned about entirely new mediums such as digital art and relief printmaking.
